Women's Tennis Defeats South Dakota State, Extends Winning-Streak To Six

Bluejays improve to 7-1 during the month of March
OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton women's tennis team picked up its sixth consecutive victory with a 6-1 win over South Dakota State on Friday at the Hanscom Tennis Center.
The Bluejays are now 11-6 overall and 7-1 during the month of March.
Creighton secured the doubles point with victories the top two doubles positions. Katherine Nelsen and Michaela Henne won 6-2 at No. 2, while Ashley Ishimura and Darby Rosette won 6-4 at No. 1.
Nelsen's come-from-behind victory at No. 3 singles clinched the overall match. After trailing 5-0 in the opening set, Nelsen rallied for a 7-5 victory before winning 6-3 in the second set.
The Bluejays also won in straight-sets at No. 2, 4, 5 and 6 singles, as four individuals extended personal winning streaks. Michaela Henne picked up her 11th-straight singles victory, and Embree won her eighth consecutive, while Rosette claimed her sixth-straight, and Hylan Miller earned her fifth in a row.
South Dakota State's one point came from a three-set victory at No. 1. The Jackrabbits won the opening frame 6-2 before Ashley Ishimura evened the match with a 6-3 second-set win. South Dakota State's Iasmin Rosa picked up a 6-3 third-set win.
"Our girls played another solid match today against a scrappy South Dakota State team," head coach Tom Lilly said. "It was nice to get another doubles point win, and Katherine made a great comeback from being down 5-0 in the first set and kept her focus.
"Everyone competed well, and we will need to step it up even more tomorrow against a strong Colorado State team."
Creighton and Colorado State will meet at the Hanscom Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
