Men's Tennis Closes Season With Win Over Xavier At The BIG EAST Championships

Creighton concludes the 2017 spring season at 10-11
CAYCE, S.C. -- The Creighton men's tennis team concluded its 2017 season with a 4-1 win over Xavier during the back draws of the BIG EAST Championships on Saturday afternoon in Cayce, S.C.
The Bluejays ended the 2017 season with a 10-11 overall record.
Creighton claimed the doubles point on Saturday by winning at the No. 1 and 3 positions. Harrison Lang and Brooks Kendall won 6-3 at the top spot, and Alex Koca and Daniel Lopez-Rey won 6-1 during the No. 3 doubles match.
Kendall opened singles action by earning his team-leading 13th victory. The junior won 6-4, 6-3 to finish the spring season at 13-5.
Senior Jake Glazer earned his 45th career singles victory in his final match as a Bluejay to give Creighton a 3-0 edge. Glazer won 7-5, 6-1 at the No. 6 slot to move into a tie for 15th on Creighton career singles victories list.
Xavier kept the match alive with a straight-sets victory at the No. 2 slot, 6-3, 6-4.
Senior Aaron Chalstrom clinched the overall dual with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 5. Chalstrom claimed his 48th career singles victory, which ranks 14th-best in Creighton program history. The Fort Dodge, Iowa product claimed 80 career combined victories in singles and doubles action.
Senior Harrison Lang's doubles victory on Saturday marked his 97th career victory overall and 42nd in doubles play. Lang finished in 11th place in Creighton men's tennis history for combined career victories. The Niwot, Colo. native, also had 55 singles wins during four years at Creighton, which is the 10th-best mark in program history.
"It was nice to end the season on a high note even if it was the back draw," head coach Tom Lilly said. "Our guys competed hard all year and we had three amazing seniors leading the way. It will be sad to see them go, but they gave us four great years."
