Women's Tennis Outlasts Nebraska-Omaha During Home-Opener

Darby Rosette's three-set come-from-behind victory clinches dual
OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton women's tennis team opened its 2018 home schedule with a 4-3 victory against Nebraska-Omaha on Saturday afternoon at the Hanscom Tennis Center.
The Mavericks took the doubles point with wins at the top two positions. Creighton's Erin Epperson and Claire Embree combined for a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles, but a 6-4 UNO victory at No. 2 clinched the first overall point.
During singles play, Epperson and Embree continued their winning ways with straight-sets wins. Embree swept at No. 5 before Epperson went 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4 to give Creighton a 2-1 overall lead.
Ashley Ishimura extended the lead to 3-1 with a 6-4, 6-3 at the top singles slot.
Nebraska-Omaha closed the gap with a straight-sets win at No. 6 singles before both the No. 2 and No. 3 matches each went to a third set.
At No. 3, Darby Rosette trailed 5-2 during the second set, but forced a third with a come-from-behind 7-5 win. During the deciding set, Rosette claimed a 6-3 victory to clinch the overall match.
Michaela Henne earned a 7-5 win in the first set at No. 2 but fell 5-7 during the second frame. Nebraska-Omaha claimed a 6-2 win during the third set to close the final margin to one.
Creighton continues a stretch of six consecutive home matches with a contest on Friday against North Dakota at the Hanscom Tennis Center.
