#8 Men's Soccer Upended 1-0 At Akron To Conclude Three-Match Road Stretch

Bluejays went 2-1 during three consecutive road matches
AKRON, Ohio – The No. 8 Creighton men's soccer team allowed a goal during the early stages of the second half and fell to Akron, 1-0, on Tuesday night at FirstEnergy Stadium.
The Bluejays dropped to 9-3-1 overall, while the Zips improved to 6-5-2.
Tuesday's contest marked Creighton's third consecutive road match. The Bluejays ended the stretch 2-1 with BIG EAST victories against St. John's and Xavier -- each by a 3-1 score.
Akron scored the game-winning goal less than five minutes into the second half. During the 49th minute, Morgan Hackworth headed the ball into the back of the net at the far post after receiving a cross from the left flank.
After falling behind, Creighton managed only five shots, including two on goal which were both saved.
Akron ended the match with a 14-10 advantage in shots, including 6-3 on goal. The Bluejays tied their season-low for shots attempted as the team entered the night averaging 17.5 shots per match.
Sven Koenig paced Creighton with four shots, three on goal.
Paul Kruse made five saves, including four during the second half. The Bluejays have allowed only seven goals this season and never allowed more than one during a single match.
Creighton fired the first four shots of the match during the first 13 minutes of action before Akron took control of possession. The Zips outshot the Bluejays 8-1 during the final 32 minutes of the opening half.
Creighton returns to the pitch and resumes BIG EAST play on Saturday night. The Bluejays host Providence at 7 p.m. at Morrison Stadium for a contest between the top two teams in the BIG EAST standings. The match marks Creighton's first home match since Oct. 2.
The Bluejays lead the league with 15 points and a 5-0-0 conference record, while the Friars own 12 points with a 4-1-0 mark during BIG EAST action.
Three of Creighton's final four matches of the regular season will be at Morrison Stadium where the Bluejays are 5-1-1 this season, including 2-0 during league play.
