#8 Men's Soccer Uses Three Unanswered Goals To Down St. John's, 3-1

The Bluejays are the last team in the BIG EAST without a loss
QUEENS, N.Y. – The No. 8 Creighton men's soccer team scored three unanswered goals and defeated St. John's, 3-1, on Saturday night at Belson Stadium.
The Bluejays improved to 4-0-0 in BIG EAST play and 8-2-1 overall, while the Red Storm fell to 2-1-1 during league play and 6-4-1 overall.
Kuba Polat, Yudai Tashiro and Younes Boudadi each scored for Creighton during the second half after St. John's took an early lead less than five minutes after the break.
The Bluejays controlled possession during the first half and did not allow a shot from the Red Strom, but St. John's scored during the 49th minute to break the scoreless tie.
Tani Oluwaseyi found the back of the net to give the host Red Storm a 1-0 lead.
The goal came on the first shot by either team in the second half.
Polat evened the match at 1-1 with a penalty kick goal during the 55th minute. Boudadi received a pass in the right side of the 18-yard box and was taken down from behind to setup the penalty kick opportunity. Polat took the PK and improved to 2-for-2 on penalty kick attempts this season.
During the 60th minute, one player from both St. John's and Creighton was shown a red card, forcing both teams to play with only 10 men.
Less four minutes after the first pair of ejections, the Red Storm had an individual receive his second yellow card, which resulted in a red card and forced St. John's to play with nine players on the pitch for the final 27 minutes of regulation.
The Bluejays took control of the match with the man advantage and scored their second and third goals during a span of three minutes.
Tashiro gave Creighton a 2-1 lead with a goal during the 71st minute. The junior fired a shot on goal that was saved before the Bluejay midfielder recovered the loose ball just in front of the goal line and found the back of the net. The goal marked Tashiro's first as a Bluejay. He had 12 during two seasons at Tyler Junior College (2016-2017).
Boudadi extended the Bluejays' advantage during the 74th minute. Pepe Cejudo fired a shot on goal that was saved before Boudadi one-touched the rebound past the goalkeeper and into the back of the net for the first goal of his career.
Freshman goalkeeper Paul Kruse made one save as Creighton opened BIG EAST play with four consecutive victories for the first time since 2015 when the squad started 6-0-0.
The Bluejays ended the match with a 16-4 advantage in shots, including 10-2 on goal.
Creighton's victory on Saturday night came on the heels of a 1-0 double overtime loss at home against No. 5 Denver on Tuesday.
The Bluejays improved to 3-1-0 during road matches this season, including 2-0-0 in BIG EAST matches away from Omaha. The team had only two road wins during all road matches last year.
Creighton is back in action on Friday at Xavier. Kickoff between the Bluejays and Musketeers in Cincinnati, Ohio is scheduled for 6 p.m. Central.
