
Men's Soccer Announces Addition of Five For 2019

Jake Ashford (Shawnee, Kan.), Braeden Beard (Olathe, Kan.), Duncan McGuire (Omaha, Neb.), Luke Mitchell (Centennial, Colo.), and Carlos Salazar (Omaha, Neb.)
OMAHA, Neb. – Creighton men's soccer head coach Johnny Torres announced the addition of five players for the 2019 season.
 
Jake Ashford (Shawnee, Kan.), Braeden Beard (Olathe, Kan.), Duncan McGuire (Omaha, Neb.), Luke Mitchell (Centennial, Colo.), and Carlos Salazar (Omaha, Neb.) will join the program for the upcoming season.
 
Below is more information on each of the players who will join the Bluejay program.
 
Jake Ashford, Shawnee, Kan., Mill Valley High School, Defender, KC Fushion
-Named the 2017 Kansas 5A Offensive Player of the Year
-Selected to the west team for the 2018 High School All-American game
-First Team All-State in 2017
-Two-time Eastern Kansas League Midfielder of the Year honoree (2017, 2018)
-Tallied 24 goals and six assists in 2018, while posting 19 goals and 11 assists in 2017
-Four-time Kansas State Cup Champion (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017)
-Four-time First Team All-League selection
-Named to Top Drawer Soccer Fall 2018 All-Region Team
 
Braeden Beard, Olathe, Kan., Olathe Northwest High School, Forward, Kansas City Rush
-Formerly a member of the Sporting KC Development Academy
-Class 6A All-State First Team selection in Kansas in 2017
-Part of the Kansas City Rush Academy
 
Duncan McGuire, Omaha, Neb., Creighton Prep, Forward, Elkhorn Soccer Club
-2018 Omaha World-Herald All-Nebraska First Team selection
-2018 Lincoln Journal Star Super-State First Team selection
-Ranked second in Class A in Nebraska for goals (21) and added six assists during 2018 as a junior
-Had nine matches with multiple goals
-Helped lead the Junior Jays to the 2017 Nebraska Class A state championship
-Plays at club level ffor the Elkhorn Soccer Club
 
Luke Mitchell, Centennial, Colo., Regis Jesuit High School, Defender, Atlanta United 2
-Plays for the Atlanta United 2 (USL)
-Held captain status and started at Center Back with Colorado Rapids DA before joining Atlanta United
-Selected for the U17, U16 and U15 National Team rosters
-Earned Colorado State Cup MVP honors in 2017
 
Carlos Salazar, Omaha, Neb., South High School, Forward, Elkhorn Soccer Club
-2018 Omaha World-Herald All-Nebraska First Team selection
-2018 Lincoln Journal Star Super-State Second Team selection
-Led the Packers with 13 goals and 10 assists during 2018
-Plays at club level for the Elkhorn Soccer Club
The 2019 season will mark Torres's first year as head coach of the Bluejay men's soccer program after spending 12 seasons as a Creighton assistant coach. Torres gained the reins of the program following Elmar Bolowich's resignation after eight seasons at the helm of the Bluejays.
