Creighton improves to 22-4 overall and 14-0 in the BIG EAST
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. -- The No. 9 Creighton Volleyball team completed its BIG EAST road slate unbeaten with a 3-0 win at Seton Hall on Saturday night in South Orange.
Scores of the match were 25-16, 25-19, 25-13 in favor of the Bluejays, who won their 14th straight match to improve to 22-4 overall and 14-0 in BIG EAST play. Seton Hall dropped to 9-19 overall and is 4-11 in league action.
"I thought this weekend we saw some transfer of areas that we worked on practice," said Creighton head coach Kirsten Bernthal Booth. "We blocked well this weekend, and that's been a big focal point. We also served well and that too has been a point of emphasis. And our hitting efficiency was good. It's good to see transfer of things we worked on and in practice."
Â
Brittany Witt led Creighton with 15 digs, and Jaali Winters added 13 kills on .462 hitting. Also in double-figures with 11 kills was Taryn Kloth, who hit .391. Madelyn Cole served up three aces and dished 34 assists in addition to three blocks and four kills in four attempts. CU recorded 47 kills, six aces, 45 digs and 9.0 blocks on .380 hitting.
Seton Hall was led by 13 kills from Abby Thelen. The Pirates notched 34 kills, 38 digs, 2.0 blocks and no aces on .175 hitting.
Creighton had little trouble in the opening set, never trailing while rolling to a 25-16 win. The Bluejays got five kills from Winters and hit .367 as a team in the victory.
Kloth produced six kills and two solo blocks in the second set. Creighton led 24-12 before finally converting its eighth set point chance for the 25-19 win to go up 2-0.
The Bluejays hit .471 and did not have an attack error in the final set, a 25-13 domination to complete the road sweep. Freshman Kari Zumach had five kills in six swings and added two blocks, while Winters provided six kills and Witt seven digs.
Â
"It was great that everyone got the opportunity to play," said Booth. "Now it's about focusing on areas we can get better in and improving."
Creighton will play its final four matches of the regular-season at D.J. Sokol Arena, starting with Friday's 7 p.m. contest against Georgetown.
