Kloth picks up her second All-America honor of the day
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (December 12, 2018) – Creighton Volleyball outside hitter Taryn Kloth has been named a Second Team Senior CLASS Award All-American. A Sioux Falls, S.D., native, Kloth joins Lauren Smith (2016 First Team) as the program's second Senior CLASS Award All-American in history.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
The recognition for Kloth comes after she wrapped up a stellar career. She led Creighton with 4.15 kills per set and also ranked among the BIG EAST leaders by hitting .283. Her 490 kills are the most in CU history by a senior, and the Sioux Falls, S.D., native ranked fourth in school history with 1,427 career kills. Kloth was honored as an Honorable Mention All-America choice by the AVCA for the second time in her career on Wednesday, as she was first recognized in 2016.
Kloth has also been a standout in the classroom and the community. She was yesterday named a Third Team CoSIDA Academic All-American, and will graduate later this month in just seven semesters with a degree in Finance. She received BIG EAST All-Academic Team honors after each of the previous three seasons. In the community the Bluejay co-captain helps with Creighton's Welcome Week, St. Pius/St. Leo Race for Education, Night Out with the Jays, Project Harmony and the Completely Kids program. She also participates in Children's Hospital visits and spent time reading to school children while in Slovenia this past summer.
Nebraska outside hitter Mikaela Foecke was selected as the 2018 Senior CLASS Award® winner in NCAA® Division I women's volleyball. The award, chosen by a nationwide vote of Division I volleyball coaches, national volleyball media and fans, is given annually to the most outstanding senior student-athlete in Division I volleyball. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: classroom, community, character and competition.
Kloth was bidding to become the third Senior CLASS Award winner in school history, joining previous recipients Brian Holt (2011 men's soccer) and Doug McDermott (2014 men's basketball).
