Men's Tennis Takes Down North Dakota 5-2 For First Home Victory

Bluejays swept doubles and won at four of the top five singles positions
OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton men's tennis team defeated North Dakota 5-2 on Saturday afternoon at the Hanscom Tennis Center for the Bluejays' first home victory of the 2018 dual season.
Creighton opened the afternoon with a clean sweep of doubles action. Mac Mease and Daniel Lopez-Rey paired up for a 6-3 win at No. 2, Brooks Kendall and Armando Gandini won 6-2 at No. 3 and Alex Koca and Stratton Brown claimed a 6-4 victory at the top doubles position.
The Bluejays continued their success during singles action by winning four of the top five positions to seal the overall dual victory.
Brown (No. 2), Lopez-Rey (No. 5) and Kendall (No. 1) each won in straight-sets to secure the singles portion of play. Gandini also won in straight-sets at No. 4 before Creighton dropped a pair of three-sets matches at No. 3 and No. 6 singles.
"North Dakota is a very solid team that is improving all the time," head coach Tom Lilly said. "Our guys once again played some strong doubles when we needed.
"We still need to manage our emotions a bit better and be more disciplined in all aspects. We are getting better and that is the main thing."
Creighton is back in action on Friday at Iowa. Doubles play in Iowa City is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
