Creighton will honor Dr. Shannon Hoos-Thompson and Dorothy Nipp
May 4th, 2018 will mark the 13th Annual Leaders for Life Luncheon held at D.J. Sokol Arena inside the Wayne and Eileen Ryan Athletic Center at Creighton University. The Creighton Athletics Leaders for Life Luncheon is the annual fundraising event that celebrates Creighton's female student-athletes. All Leaders for Life gifts will directly support the Leaders for Life Endowed Scholarship Fund to ensure the continued education and graduation of outstanding female leaders.
The Leaders for Life Luncheon allows female student-athletes the opportunity to thank the supporters of women's athletics who make it possible to compete in the BIG EAST and at the NCAA Division I level. Additionally, this Luncheon provides Creighton Athletics an occasion to honor two influential supporters of women's athletics for their continued leadership and advancement at Creighton and among the community.
This year, we are excited to honor two-time academic all-MVC honoree and the 1997-1998 Creighton Softball Most Inspirational Player, Dr. Shannon Hoos-Thompson, BS'99, MD'03 with the Leaders for Life Award. Dr. Hoos-Thompson has recently accepted a role with Cardiovascular Associates in Sioux City after spending over six years as a general cardiologist in Kearney. For the past three years, she volunteered her time as the medical director for the Help Care Clinic, a facility providing free care to uninsured county residents. As a testament to her volunteer work, she received the ServeNebraska Recognition Governor Award and Kearney Hub Freedom Award and was recognized as a finalist for the COPIC Humanitarian Award. In 2016, Dr. Hoos-Thompson and her husband, Brian, endowed a scholarship to support Creighton female student-athletes, who demonstrate extra dedication, as she did while attending Creighton.
Â
We are also thrilled to honor Dorothy Nipp with the Believe and Achieve Award. Nipp, CEO and co-owner of TAB Construction, has experienced amazing success as a woman in male-dominated industries and her company has improved the lives of so many individuals from Iowa and Nebraska. Nipp and her husband, Pat, BS'55 and Creighton baseball letterman, have been tremendous benefactors of Creighton Athletics, especially our women's athletic programs. She has embodied the value of taking risks and never setting limits on your potential. Nipp's generosity has provided countless opportunities for Bluejay student-athletes. Just as important, her success, advice, humbleness and willingness to make a difference serve as incredible examples for our female student-athletes.
