Bluejay Women's Basketball Fall 86-64 to #9 UCLA in Second Round of NCAA Tournament

Los Angeles, Calif. -- Despite a strong performance from junior Audrey Faber, the Creighton women's basketball team dropped a 86-64 to the ninth-ranked UCLA Bruins in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament on Monday, March 20.
The loss closed Creighton's season at 19-13, while UCLA moved to 26-7. The Bruins advanced to the Kansas City Regional beginning on Friday, it is UCLA's second consecutive season reaching at least the Sweet 16.
Faber opened the game with a trey from the left-corner to give the Bluejays an advantage, but the Bruins rattled off 13 consecutive points over four minutes to surge ahead 13-3 (4:51). Creighton battled the Bruins evenly the remainder of the quarter, trailing 24-13 after the first quarter.
UCLA came out quickly once more in the second period, racing out to a 32-15 lead, but Faber rallied her troops with a driving jumper to start a 7-0 Creighton run. Bluejay senior Sydney Lamberty delivered a layup to make it 32-19, then Faber connected from long range as the Bluejays cut the deficit to 32-22 (6:55). The two squads exchanged bursts of five points, pushing the contest to 37-27 (5:07), however it was UCLA that closed the half with a final run to take a 49-32 edge into the half.
While both teams shot over 50% in the first half, Creighton went cold in the third. The Bluejays closed the period just 2-of-13 (15%) as Creighton trailed by as much as 28 in the frame and went to the fourth period down 71-45.
Creighton and UCLA liberally used their bench in the final frame, with the Bluejays getting no closer than 21 the rest of the way.
Faber led Creighton with 20 points in the loss, while sophomore Olivie Elger chipped in 13 points. Five Bruins finished in double figures, including a game-high 21 points from Jordin Canada.
