Five wins in four days proves for successful trip in Orlando
ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Creighton women's tennis team finished its week in Orlando with five wins in five matches as the Bluejays rolled past Hampton, 7-0 on Thursday afternoon.
The sweep of the Pirates helped Creighton bump its winning streak to five, and has now won seven of its last eight. The victory also moved the Buejays to 10-4 overall on the season.
Creighton rolled out to a hot start behind the doubles pair of Darby Rosette and Kendra Lavallee, as the women opened the afternoon with a 6-2 win at the No. 3 spot. Erin Epperson and Claire Embree soon followed, as their 6-1 result at No. 2 resulted in the doubles point for the Bluejays.
Coming hot off of a doubles victory, Embree followed suit in her singles match at No. 5 with a 6-3, 6-1 decision. Celine Massereau pushed the overall score to 3-0 following a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 6, before back-to-back 6-3 sets from Rosette gave the Bluejays the team victory. Ashley Ishimura (No. 1) and Michaela Henne (No. 2) each won 6-3, 6-4 and Epperson's straight-sets victory insured a clean sweep and sent the women home with their third shutout of the season.
"This was a fantasy week for the team," head coach Tom Lilly said. "To go 5-0 against some quality competition and playing outside for the first time was great, and everyone played a role in each of the wins. Hopefully we can keep competing well moving forward."
The Bluejays are in action next in about two weeks, as South Dakota visits Omaha on March 21 . Doubles play is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m.
