Men's Soccer Players Wrapping Up Summer Season With Success

Five Bluejays helping lead Laredo Heat SC to unblemished season
OMAHA, Neb. -- Despite the Creighton men's soccer team not entirely together as one unit during the summer months, multiple Bluejays have found success with various clubs across the country.Â
Defender Younes Boudadi earned a spot on the Lone Star Conference XI team, while Boudadi and four other Bluejays led Laredo Heat SC to a current 12-0-0 record and the South Region Semifinals of the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL). Laredo defeated Dutch Lions FC 4-3 in overtime on Saturday, July 14. Creighton's Tor Trosten scored twice during overtime, while Ziyad Fares scored Laredo's first goal of the match.
Boudadi, Trosten, Fares, Yudai Toshiro, Daniel Espeleta and Laredo Heat SC will host the Little Rock Rangers on Tuesday needing a win to clinch a spot in the South Region Championship Match.
Anthony Macchione, Julius Fohr, Connor Ramlo, Paul Kruse, Dominic Valdivia concluded their stay with Lane United FC on Saturday. Lane United FC finished third in the Northwest Division of the Premier Development League (PDL) and set club records for wins (5), points, (20), goals scored (28) and goal differential (plus-six). Macchione scored four goals to rank third on the team, while Kruse held a 1.55 goals against average during 12 matches in goal.Â
Luke Haakenson, Sven Koenig, Jose Cejudo and Akeem Ward continue their season with Chicago FC United on Friday, July 20 against Dayton Dutch Lions FC during the PDL Central Conference Semifinals in West Des Moines, Iowa. Chicago finished the regular-season 7-5-2 (23 points) for second place in the Heartland Division of the Central Conference. Haakenson leads the squad with nine points, is tied for the team lead for goals (3) and paces Chicago with three assists.Â
Florian Daut and Keegan Boyd have competed with Nebraska Bugeaters FC this summer. The Bugeaters currently sit in second place in the West Division of the Midwest Conference in the United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) with one regular-season match remaining on Wednesday against the Santa Fe Wanderers.Â
Creighton opens its 2018 schedule with three exhibition matches, starting on Aug. 11 against Nebraska-Omaha. The Bluejays' first home match is set for Aug. 18 versus Northern Illinois at 7 p.m. The regular season begins on Aug. 24 as Creighton welcomes Clemson to Morrison Stadium for a 7 p.m. contest.Â
