Volleyball Makes Quick Work of Seton Hall in Sixth Straight Sweep

Bluejays improve to 19-3
OMAHA, Neb. -- The No. 9 Creighton Volleyball team needed just 59 minutes to complete its 10th straight 3-0 victory over Seton Hall, defeating the Pirates 25-12, 25-12, 25-9 on Sunday, Nov. 3.
Creighton improved to 19-3 on the year and 12-0 in BIG EAST play with its 14th straight win. The Bluejays have now won 31 consecutive regular-season matches against BIG EAST competition. Seton Hall dropped to 7-19 overall and is 2-10 in BIG EAST action.
Freshman Keeley Davis led all players with 14 kills and hit a career-high .560 to pace the Bluejays to victory, and junior Erica Kostelac added 12 kills and a pair of aces on .455 hitting. Creighton hit .467 in the match, the fifth-best performance in program history. Madelyn Cole had a double-double with 36 assists and 13 digs, and Brittany Witt also added 13 digs. The Bluejays had 48 kills, seven aces, 51 digs and eight blocks on the afternoon.
Seton Hall was led by five kills from Amanda Rachwal. The leading attacker on the Pirates, Haylee Gasser, hit -.111 and was limited to a season-low three kills. Seton Hall had 18 kills, one ace, 33 digs and one block on .056 hitting.
Creighton did not trail in either of the first two sets. In set one, the Jays stormed out of the gates by taking a 10-4 lead. CU hit .577 in the opener, with Davis pounding five kills and an ace.
CU bolted to leads of 19-2 and 19-5 en route to a 25-12 victory in the second set. Kostelac had five kills, and Cole served up a 5-0 run that included a pair of aces.
Seton Hall's only leads of the day came in the third set when the Pirate owned advantages of 1-0 and 2-1. CU quickly responded with an 8-1 burst to move ahead 9-3 and never looked back. A kill from Kiana Schmitt ended the match. Davis had seven kills in the final set, and Cole added 12 assists and eight digs in the game. CU hit .469 in the third set and limited the Pirates to four kills in 32 swings.
Creighton returns to action on Friday at 6 p.m. Central at third-place Villanova.

The 59 minute match was Creighton's shortest since a different 59 minute match in a 3-0 loss at Northern Iowa on Sept. 17, 1999 and least in a Bluejay win since Sept. 15, 1996 during a 53 minute victory vs. UMKC. Both of those were in the sideout scoring era.
