Monkemeyer Named First Team Academic All-American by CoSIDA

OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton cross country junior Nick Monkemeyer has earned First Team Academic All-America distinction from the College Sports Information Directors of America. The team is sponsored by Google Cloud.

Monkemeyer is the first CoSIDA Academic All-American in Creighton Cross Country history, and the 11th student-athlete across all Bluejay sports to be named a First Team Academic All-American by CoSIDA. Creighton owns 41 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans in school history, who have combined to earn 51 honors.

A Rockford, Ill., product, Monkemeyer owns a perfect 4.00 GPA. The Doctor of Pharmacy candidate has been on the Dean's List each of his six semesters at Creighton and is a member of Creighton's Honors program.

On the course, Monkemeyer ran in all six cross country meets for Creighton last fall, and was the team's No. 2 runner at the 2018 BIG EAST Championship. Monkemeyer also owns the 12th-best 10K time in program history, and 22nd-best 8K clocking.

Last month Monkemeyer became Creighton's first cross country runner to earn Academic All-District recognition since Jessica Donner was a Second Team All-District VII pick during the 2002-03 academic year.

The 2018-19 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.

Creighton's other past First Team CoSIDA Academic All-Americans include Rick Apke (men's basketball; 1978), Jean Tierney (softball; 1983), Christy Lunceford (softball; 1997), Heidi Geier (softball; 1999), Christine Fukumoto (softball; 2005), Brian Holt (men's soccer; 2011), Fabian Herbers (men's soccer; 2015), Tyler Clement (men's basketball; 2018), Sam Crowley (softball; 2018) and Sven Koenig (men's soccer, 2018).
