#14 Volleyball Snaps Georgetown's 8-Match Win Streak

Bluejays win 39th straight BIG EAST home match
OMAHA, Neb. - The No. 14 Creighton Volleyball team picked up its ninth win in the last 10 matches with a 3-1 victory over visiting Georgetown on Sunday, Sept. 29. Scores of the Bluejay win were 25-14, 25-18, 20-25, 25-18.
Creighton improved to 9-3 on the season and 2-0 in BIG EAST play. The Hoyas had their eight-match win streak halted and fell to 11-5 (1-1 BIG EAST).
Keeley Davis led Creighton with 13 kills and Megan Ballenger had 10 kills on .625 hitting. Brittany Witt topped the defense with 20 digs. The Bluejays had 48 kills, six aces, 50 digs and eight blocks on .274 hitting.
Iva Vujosevic led all players with 15 kills for Georgetown. The Hoyas had 38 kills, six aces, 43 digs and seven blocks on .126 hitting.
Creighton controlled the first set, a 25-14 victory over an error-prone Georgetown team. The Hoyas had eight attack errors, six service errors, two blocking errors, two ball handling errors and were aced once as the Jays rolled to victory despite just eight kills. A 5-0 serving run on Naomi Hickman's serve pushed the Bluejay lead to 11-6 and gave CU control for good.
Creighton hit .346 in the second set to take a 2-0 lead, winning a 25-18 decision. Madelyn Cole had 10 assists, two kills and an ace in the set for the Bluejays.
Georgetown won just its second set ever in seven matches at D.J. Sokol Arena with a 25-20 victory in the third set. Creighton fell behind 9-4 early before rallying to tie the score at 19, only to see Georgetown end the set on a 6-1 run. Vujosevic had five kills for the Hoyas in the third set.
The fourth set was deadlocked at 14-all before Creighton pulled away down the stretch for the 25-18 win. Davis had six of her 13 kills in the final frame, including CU's final four points of the match.
Creighton will hit the road for its next four matches, starting Friday with a 6 p.m. Central match at St. John's.
NOTES: Creighton improved to 13-0 all-time against Georgetown, winning 39-of-46 sets at all sites ... Madelyn Cole made her 100th collegiate start on Sunday, and 46th in as many matches since transferring from Marshall to Creighton ... Creighton improved to 99-9 all-time in regular-season BIG EAST play, including a 54-2 mark at D.J. Sokol Arena that includes 39 straight victories ... Creighton has won 70 straight matches over unranked teams when winning set one ... Creighton owns 53 straight wins when outdigging its opponent ... Brittany Witt had 20 or more digs for the 22nd time in her career ... Creighton finished the month of September with a 9-1 record. It's the second-best win percentage (.900) in any month of 10 matches or more in program history, trailing only a 10-1 mark (.909) set in October of 2015.
