Creighton Volleyball Duo Heads to Colorado Springs for USA Volleyball Tryouts

OMAHA, Neb. – Rising sophomore Keeley Davis and graduate manager/technical coordinator Brian Hurler will participate in the 2020 U.S. Women's National Team open tryouts, which are taking place this weekend in Colorado Springs, Colo. The Creighton Volleyball duo will each head to the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center for the tryouts this weekend, which will be held Feb. 21-23.
Hurler's spot on the staff as a Data Volleyball technician is assured. Davis will be looking to train with USA Volleyball for the second straight summer after spending time last summer with the U.S. Women's Collegiate National Team-Anaheim.
"The opportunity to attend tryouts and potentially train with the U.S. Women's National Team is a great chance for Keeley to showcase her abilities and learn from some of the brightest names in the sport," said Creighton head coach Kirsten Bernthal Booth. "Her experience last summer with the National Team helped propel her to a standout freshman season, and I know she's eager to continue her development as she strives to become one of the top outside hitters in the nation."
There are 213 student-athletes from 93 colleges/universities that are expected to participate. U.S. Women's National Team Head Coach Karch Kiraly and his staff will direct the entire tryout process.
Selections for the U.S. Collegiate National Teams will be made by the end of March.
"We're really excited about the CNT program for 2020," Kiraly said. "Our CNT coaching staff will place a heavy emphasis on teaching, learning and training. The teaching and learning will cover the most important aspects of the Women's National Team program: our culture, our principles, philosophies, techniques and tactics. And the training will give players the chance to put into action all those ideas."
The tryout will involve four sessions with three waves per session, and each athlete will have one tryout session on Friday, one morning and one afternoon session on Saturday and one morning session on Sunday. Davis will participate in Friday's "White Wave" session that starts at 4:50 p.m. CST and lasts 100 minutes. Davis will wear jersey number W67. Saturday's two sessions are at 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. The final session on Sunday begins at 8:30 a.m. CT with tournament style play, along with 16-18 athletes selected by the U.S. Women's National Team staff to participate in a "USA" training session. The Sunday session wraps up at 11:30 a.m. CT.
All sessions of the tryout (minus the USA Training session on Sunday) will be streamed live at https://www.teamusa.org/usa-volleyball/video. USA Volleyball will use #USAVtryout as the event hashtag for photos, notes, quotes and stories posted to its social media platforms Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat under the handle @usavolleyball.
Davis was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Year, First Team All-BIG EAST and First Team All-EAST Region last year following a standout rookie season. She averaged 3.35 kills, 1.37 digs and 0.31 aces per set. Coached by Kirsten Bernthal Booth, Creighton's 2019 team finished 25-6 and ranked 16th in the final AVCA poll while winning the BIG EAST conference for a sixth straight season.
Creighton has had several women play internationally with USA Volleyball in recent seasons, as Brittany Witt (Thailand), Jaali Winters (Croatia) and Taryn Kloth (China) have all represented Team USA overseas at one time or another.
