As we conclude the 16th Annual Leaders for Life Celebration, we offer a special congratulations to our seniors on their outstanding achievements while at Creighton – academically and athletically. As we begin the final day of the online Leaders for Life celebration, we reflect on the impact that Leaders for Life and scholarship support has each and everyday on Creighton student-athletes. Over the 16-year history of the Leaders for Life event, our supporters and fans have invested more than $1,000,000 to directly impact more than 2,000 female student-athletes.

Without scholarship support, Creighton female student-athletes would not be provided with the opportunity to excel as students and as athletes.

Women's soccer Junior, Josie Clough, is just one example of a student-athlete ready to serve others through her future career. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Josie has reflected on her future role as a nurse and seeing the light during this challenging time.

The Creighton culture is something special and the head coaches of Creighton's eight women's programs prove it year after year. Our eight women's head coaches have been in their roles a combined 140 years, an average of 17.5 years per coach. Six of the eight coaches have been in their current position for 17 seasons or more.

Lisa Chipps, Ed.D., Director of Academic Services and Senior Woman Administrator for Creighton Athletics, is recognized with the Leaders for Life Award. The Leader for Life Award honors women who have demonstrated a truly outstanding and consistent support for women's athletics at Creighton University. The person must have contributed to the athletic program through leadership contribution at Creighton.

Lisa has earned this honor because she empowers student-athletes to shine and succeed. She is a driving force behind the excellent academic experience all students-athletes receive—including nearly 175 females—and Creighton's enviable graduation rate of 96 percent, which ranks in the top 10 percent of all Division I institutions.

As we continue the 2020 Leaders for Life virtual celebration, Creighton Athletics honors two women who have made significant impacts on Creighton Athletics and our women's programs.
Anne McGuire will accept the Believe and Achieve Award. The Believe and Achieve Award honors a business/civic leader that has impacted the community-at-large. The recipient is a volunteer in the community for the betterment of others, emphasizes women's issues and female empowerment, demonstrates a positive and supportive environment through service to the public, and shows outstanding professional virtue. The Believe and Achieve recipient works to enrich their communities and give women leadership opportunities.

McGuire is a Creighton alumna, member of the Creighton Jaybacker Executive Board and Leaders for Life Committee. A retired nurse, Anne has exemplified true leadership in her family, community, professional career, and most notably, as the chair the Omaha Public Power District board of directors. Anne's impact on Creighton Women's Athletics extends back to the 1970s when it first began, and her investment in and dedication to all Bluejay student-athletes continues today.Â

Over the past three years, Leaders for Life has expanded beyond a once a year event, into a leadership development and community engagement program for the female student-athletes. Through this Leaders for Life programming, Creighton Athletics has built a strong partnership with FITGirl, Inc, an Omaha non-profit that provides fitness and empowerment workshops and camps for teen girls.Â
