Men's Soccer Drops 1-0 Decision To DePaul

Bluejays limited to just one shot attempt in second half
CHICAGO, Ill. -- The Creighton men's soccer team fell to DePaul, 1-0, on Wednesday afternoon in Chicago.
The Bluejays dropped to 0-3-0 in BIG EAST play and 3-5-1 overall, while the Blue Demons improved to 2-1-0 during league action and 6-4-0 overall.
DePaul scored the game-winning goal during the 63rd minute. Creighton's Paul Kruse came well off his line to play a ball at the top of the box, but Blue Demon midfielder Jacob Huth touched the ball away Kruse before calmly sending the ball into the back of an empty net.
Creighton was limited to five shot attempts on Wednesday, including just one in the second half.Â
One of the Bluejays' best scoring chances came with four minutes remaining in the first half. Owen O'Malley settled down the ball near the bench side of the field before taking a couple quick touches towards the 18-yard box and firing a shot that hit off the crossbar. Â
Creighton's lone official shot attempt of the second half came from Alejandro Maillet during the 86th minute as the Bluejays attempted to find an equalizer.Â
DePaul ended the match with an 11-5 advantage in shot attempts, including 6-1 on goal, and a 10-3 edge in corner kicks. Creighton was whistled for 23 fouls and four yellow cards, while the Blue Demons were issued 13 fouls and one yellow card.
The Bluejays played a man down the final eight minutes of the match after a second yellow card was shown to Callum Watson, resulting in a red card and disqualification.
Kruse ended the match with five saves.Â
Creighton returns to Omaha and will host Marquette on Saturday night. Kickoff between the Bluejays and Golden Eagles is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Morrison Stadium.Â
