Women's Basketball Turns Cancellation Into Opportunity

Indianapolis, Ind. -- After hearing the official word that their afternoon game with Butler was canceled, head coach Jim Flanery and the Creighton women's basketball team headed to Hinkle Fieldhouse for a light practice. Before practice began, Flanery offered another game to his team, an inter squad game featuring coaches and staff.
The players jumped at the chance, playing four quarters with a finish at 45.
"I felt like it was a good opportunity to create some positive feelings about the weekend. It can be easy to start feeling bad about the situation," said Flanery. "Having the staff participate made the experience light and fun, while also giving us a chance to some actual basketball in."
Six staff members were split among the two teams, including Flanery himself.
Flanery got things started doing introductions for his team, while strength coach Brad Schmidt was on the call for the opposing team.
