OMAHA, Neb. -- Three women from the Creighton Volleyball team were honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association on Tuesday with All-Region honors, with Norah Sis taking home East Region Freshman of the Year accolades. Sis was joined by Bluejay teammates Kendra Wait and Jaela Zimmerman as First Team All-East Region choices, while Abby Bottomley was named an Honorable Mention selection.

The East Region consists of a combination of 38 teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference, America East Conference, Atlantic 10 Conference, BIG EAST Conference, Colonial Athletic Association, Ivy League, Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and Patriot Leagues.

This year's awards mark the sixth straight year that Creighton has had three or more student-athletes earn First Team All-Region acclaim, putting the Bluejays in elite company with the likes of Texas (11 straight years), Nebraska (10) and Minnesota (7). Creighton's 21 First Team All-Region selections since 2016 ranks tied for sixth-most nationally, trailing only Kentucky (29), Texas (29), Minnesota (27), Nebraska (25) and Stanford (22) and tied with Florida (21) and Wisconsin (21).

Sis is Creighton's third player ever named AVCA East Region Freshman of the Year, joining Jaali Winters (2015) and Brittany Witt (2016). The Papillion product led Creighton with 3.75 kills per set and her 435 kills are 120 more than any other freshman on a top-25 team, putting her in prime position to be a leading contender for National Freshman of the Year contention. Sis was named to four different All-Tournament Teams and brought home MVP honors at the BIG EAST Tournament. Sis was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Year, picked up six BIG EAST Freshman of the Week accolades and also landed on the All-BIG EAST Team.

Named AVCA East Region Player of the Year and an AVCA Honorable Mention All-American in the spring, Zimmerman earned her second straight All-Region selection after a standout senior season. The three-time All-BIG EAST pick averaged 3.69 kills and 3.22 digs was the only player in the league to average at least 3.00 kills and 3.00 digs per set. Zimmerman was named MVP of the Bluegrass Battle, Bluejay Invitational and Shocker Volleyball Classic and also earned All-Tournament Team accolades at the BIG EAST Championship.

Wait was named All-East Region after a special freshman campaign that saw her lead the BIG EAST with 10.46 assists per set and collecting a team-high 17 double-doubles. Wait also ranked among the BIG EAST leaders in hitting percentage and blocks per set as she brought home All-BIG EAST and BIG EAST All-Freshman honors. The Gardner, Kan., native was a five-time BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, picked up one BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week recognition and collected four All-Tournament Team honors.

Bottomley was recognized as an AVCA East Region Honorable Mention pick after being an AVCA Southeast Region First Team choice in the spring while at High Point University. Bottomley was a five-time All-Conference choice and averaged a team-leading 4.85 digs in her lone season as a Bluejay, while ranking second with 47 service aces. The Virginia Beach, Va., native finished her career with 2,711 career digs to rank seventh in NCAA history.

Creighton is one of two schools with multiple All-Region selections who are freshmen, joining defending national champion Kentucky (Emma Grome, Eleanor Beavin).

Creighton finished its 10th straight trip to the NCAA Tournament on Saturday with a 31-4 record, and still leads the nation in victories. CU won its BIG EAST-record eighth straight regular-season title as well as its seventh BIG EAST Tournament title in the past eight years.

All-America honors will be announced on Dec. 15 prior to next week's Final Four in Columbus, Ohio.

2021 Region Coach of the Year BIOS

The following coaches have been selected as the 2021 AVCA Division I Region Coaches of the Year by regional committees. Their awards will be officially presented at this year's Jostens Coaches Honors Luncheon in Columbus, Ohio, on Thursday, Dec. 16 during the 2021 American Volleyball Coaches Association Convention.

East Region Coach of the Year

Dani Busboom Kelly, University of Louisville
2021 Record: 30-0
Busboom Kelly has guided the Cardinals to a perfect record and a second-consecutive outright ACC Championship. Her team earned the school's first No. 1 ranking in the AVCA Top 25 Poll, became the first ACC team to go unbeaten in the regular season, and owns seven wins against ranked opponents.

East Coast Region Coach of the Year

Michelle Collier, Georgia Tech
2021 Record: 25-5
The Yellow Jackets have been ranked in the AVCA Poll the entire season, and they entered NCAA play as the eight seed. Collier's squad advanced to NCAA regional play for the third time in school history and the first time since 2004. This is the second season in the last three Collier's team has won at least 25 games.

Midwest Region Coach of the Year

Kelli Miller Phillips, Ball State University
2021 Record: 30-4
Phillips takes home the Midwest Region Coach of the Year honors after leading her team to a 17-1 league mark and to the program's ninth MAC regular-season championship. Ball State finished the year with 30 wins for the fourth time in school history and set a record for highest winning percentage (.882).

North Region Coach of the Year

Leah Johnson, Illinois State University
2021 Record: 19-14
Johnson's team kept a couple of important streaks alive this season by winning a third-straight Missouri Valley Conference Tournament title and earning a fourth-consecutive NCAA Tournament bid. The 2021 Redbirds also had three players who were first-team all-conference picks.

Northeast Region Coach of the Year

Dave Shondell, Purdue University
2021 Record: 25-6
It has been a season of firsts for Purdue Volleyball this year. Under Shondell's watch, the Boilermakers rose to a school-best No. 4 in the AVCA Top 25 Coaches Poll and earned its highest national seed, No. 6, when the NCAA Tournament bracket was announced.

Pacific North Region Coach of the Year

Keegan Cook, University of Washington
2021 Record: 26-4
Cook's Huskies went 17-3 in league play and emerged from the rugged Pac-12 as the conference champ for the second-straight season. With wins in the first two rounds of the NCAA tourney last weekend, Washington advanced to the Sweet 16 for the sixth time in Cook's seven seasons in Seattle.

Pacific South Region Coach of the Year

Heather Olmstead, Brigham Young University
2021 Record: 30-1
Olmstead and success go hand in hand, and the 2021 season was no exception. Her team responded to high expectations by going unbeaten in conference play and climbing into the top 5 in the AVCA Coaches Poll. This marks the third 30-win season for the Cougars since Olmstead took over as head coach in 2015.

South Region Coach of the Year

Julie Darty Dennis, Mississippi State University
2021 Record: 25-6
Dennis and the Bulldogs rewrote the Mississippi State record books in 2021 by posting a 25-5 overall record and 16-2 mark in conference play. Both win totals shattered the previous school records, and the Bulldogs ended the campaign at No. 24 in the AVCA Top 25 Coaches Poll, which was the first time the school had been ranked.

Southeast Region Coach of the Year

Jessie Ortiz, University of South Alabama
2021 Record: 25-7
It was quite a debut season for Ortiz at South Alabama. The first-year coach helped the Jaguars win their first Sun Belt Conference regular-season title and set a program record for league wins (15) in a season. For his efforts, he earned Southeast Region Coach of the Year and the Sun Belt Coach of the Year honors.

Southwest Region Coach of the Year

Jerritt Elliott, University of Texas
2021 Record: 26-1
It has been another banner year for Texas in 2021. Elliott, who is in his 21st season in Austin, led the Longhorns to their fifth-consecutive—and 14th overall—Big 12 championship. The Longhorns have been ranked either first or second every week this season in the AVCA Coaches Top 25 Poll.
