Zimmerman Named East Region Player of the Year; Davis & Hickman Also Named All-Region

Jaela Zimmerman joins Madelyn Cole as Bluejays to be named Region Player of the Year.
The East Region consists of a combination of 35 teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference, America East Conference, Atlantic 10 Conference, BIG EAST Conference, Colonial Athletic Association, Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and Patriot Leagues.
This year's awards mark the fifth straight year that Creighton has had three or more student-athletes earn First Team All-Region acclaim, putting the Bluejays in elite company with the likes of Texas (10 straight years), Nebraska (9)Â and Minnesota (6). Creighton's 18 First Team All-Region selections since 2016 ranks tied for fifth-most nationally, trailing only Kentucky (24), Minnesota (23), Texas (23) and Nebraska (21) and tied with Stanford (18) and Wisconsin (18).
Zimmerman becomes the second player in Creighton history to be named East Region Player of the Year, joining Madelyn Cole from last season (2019). The junior from Lincoln, Neb., led CU with 3.43 kills per set and shared the team lead with 15 aces. She's also second on the club with 2.77 digs per set. Zimmerman was a three-time BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week and also brought home BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week acclaim once. Two weeks ago Zimmerman was named All-BIG EAST for the second straight season.
Hickman collects her first All-Region honor following a campaign that saw her average 1.46 kills per set, 1.23 blocks per set and hit a team-leading .333. She was a First Team All-BIG EAST honoree and Most Outstanding Player of the BIG EAST Tournament. The Lawrence, Kan., product also ranks in the top-10 in program history in career block assists. Hickman has been at her best in CU's biggest matches, averaging 1.83 kills and 1.67 blocks per set while hitting .463 in matches against top-50 competition.
Davis is honored for the second season in a row, joining Jaali Winters as the only players in program history to be named All-Region as both a freshman and sophomore. The outside hitter from Highlands Ranch, Colo., averaged 3.02 kills and 2.62 digs per set and shared team-high honors with 15 aces in a campaign that saw her earn All-BIG EAST acclaim for the second time in as many campaigns.
Creighton is 12-3 on the season after winning the BIG EAST for a seventh straight season. The Bluejays are will start its ninth straight NCAA Tournament appearance starting Wednesday with a 2:30 p.m. match vs. Ohio Valley Conference champion Morehead State (16-1).
All-America honors will be announced on April 21 prior to next week's Final Four in Omaha.
