Volleyball Sweeps UConn; Will Meet Marquette in BIG EAST Title Match

Creighton and Marquette both win 3-0 on Friday
OMAHA, Neb. -- Top-seeded Creighton advanced to its eighth conference tournament title match in the last nine seasons with a 3-0 victory vs. UConn on Friday morning at the BIG EAST Championship Presented by JEEP.
Scores of the match in favor of the host Bluejays were 25-20, 25-23, 25-18.
Annika Welty tied her career-high with 12 kills and Keeley Davis added 12 kills and nine digs to pace the Bluejay offense. Ellie Bolton collected a match-high 17 digs and served a career-high three aces. Creighton had 47 kills, four aces, 56 digs and six blocks on .248 hitting.
UConn was paced by nine kills from Jasmine Davis and nine digs by Aset Baker-Falealili. The Huskies had 35 kills, three aces, 38 digs and six blocks on .149 hitting. UConn played Friday's match without the services of All-BIG EAST outside hitter Caylee Parker, the reigning BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week.
Welty had five kills and Bolton seven digs in the first set. A 7-0 serving run by Mahina Pua'a staked CU to a 10-4 lead and UConn never got closer than 22-19 the rest of the set.
Creighton fell behind by scores of 8-2, 16-9 and 22-17 in the second set before an incredible comeback down the stretch. Jaela Zimmerman served a 5-0 run to even the score at 22-all. After the teams traded attack errors CU took a 2-0 lead into the locker room via back-to-back kills by Davis. A two-time All-BIG EAST honoree, Davis had four kills and six digs in the second set and Ally Van Eekeren contributed eight assists for the Bluejays.
Armed with a 2-0 lead, Creighton pulled away in the third set after the teams split the first 16 points. CU compiled a 10-3 run, pushing the lead to 18-11 on a Bolton ace, and sealed the contest on a kill by Kiana Schmitt. Creighton hit .379 in the final frame.
Creighton will meet the No. 2 seed in the Midwest Division, Marquette, which swept the No. 1 seed in the East Division St. John's by scores of 25-17, 25-17, 27-25.
First serve for Saturday's BIG EAST title and the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament that goes with it is set for 11:30 a.m. Central. The match will air on FS1.
