Jaela Zimmerman Named All-American by AVCA

Junior outside hitter is named an Honorable Mention All-American by the AVCA
OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton Volleyball's Jaela Zimmerman has been named an Honorable Mention All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
The junior from Lincoln, Neb., led CU with 3.45 kills per set and shared the team lead with 15 aces. She was also second on the club with 2.71 digs per set. Zimmerman was a three-time BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week and also brought home BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week acclaim once. Three weeks ago Zimmerman was named All-BIG EAST for the second straight season, and last week she was honored as the AVCA East Region Player of the Year.
This is the first time that Zimmerman has been named an All-American from the AVCA, though she was named an All-American last season (Fall, 2019) by VolleyballMag.com.
This year marks the ninth straight season that Creighton has had at least one All-American, though it's the first time since 2014 that the Bluejays did not have multiple honorees.
One player of note who joined Zimmerman as an Honorable Mention All-America selection was High Point libero Abby Bottomley, who on Saturday announced she'd be transferring to Creighton and play for the Bluejays in the fall.
Creighton finished the its season last week with a 12-4 overall record after making its ninth straight trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Each of the three AVCA All-America Teams is comprised of 14 athletes. The Division I AVCA National Player of the Year will be announced on Thursday at the AVCA All-America/Players of the Year Banquet. This is the second season that the AVCA selected just 42 student-athletes as AVCA All-America Honorable Mention. Of these 42 selections, athletes named Player of the Year from their conference and AVCA All-Region, were automatically be named AVCA All-America Honorable Mention.
The selections were made by the AVCA Division I All-America Committee: Chair: Erin Lindsey (Santa Clara); East Region: Shaun Kupferberg (Howard); East Coast Region: Michelle Collier (Georgia Tech); Midwest Region: Mike Gawlik (Central Michigan); North Region: Vicki Brown (Iowa); Northeast Region: Sabrina King (Princeton); Pacific North Region: Keith Barnett (Air Force); Pacific South Region: Jesse Mahoney (Colorado); South Region: Brandon Rosenthal (Lipscomb); South Region: Tom Mendoza (South Carolina); Southwest Region: Lindsey Gray-Walton (Oklahoma).
