Each year at the Leaders for Life luncheon, Creighton Athletics recognizes a woman of high character who has demonstrated truly outstanding and consistent support for women's athletics at Creighton. Former Creighton Women's Basketball and Creighton Volleyball alumna, Laura (Gebhart) Baker, BS'95, PA-C, is founder of LSB Medical Inc., a medical claims processing company with an emphasis on serving veterans with disability claims. Prior to forming her own business in 2014, Baker was a family practice physician assistant and emergency room PA. Baker has embraced mentoring health care students including PA's, MD's and nursing students.
Baker is a volunteer firefighter and paramedic for the Gretna Fire Department and is a passionate supporter of Creighton Women's Basketball. Help us congratulate Laura Baker, the 2021 recipient of the Leaders for Life Award.Â

Congratulations to Josie Abboud, BSN'95, FACHE, the 2021 Believe and Achieve Award recipient. Awarded each year at the Leaders for Life luncheon, the Believe and Achieve Award was created to honor a business/civic leader that has impacted the community for the betterment of others, emphasizes women's issues and female empowerment, and provides outstanding mentorship of women leaders.
Abboud serves as President and CEO of Methodist Hospital and Methodist Women's Hospital. In 2020, she was the recipient of the ICAN Leadership Award and Creighton University's Alumni Merit Award. She is an active community leader and has served on the Creighton Prep Board of Trustees, Marian High School Board of Directors, Creighton University's College of Nursing Advisory Board, the 6-state High Plains Division board of the American Cancer Society, the Hospice House Board and most recently on the Jaybacker Executive Board.

Annually held each May, traditionally, the Leaders for Life Event is held in person at the Ryan Athletic Center/DJ Sokol Arena. The event is a fundraiser for annual and endowed scholarships that directly increase the tuition assistance for outstanding female student-athletes.
