Schmidt led Division II in triple-doubles in 2021
OMAHA, Neb. -- Jazz Schmidt, a Second Team AVCA All-American at Division II Palm Beach Atlantic in 2021, has signed to play her final year of college volleyball at Creighton.
A right-side hitter and setter, Schmidt was named Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year in the fall of 2021 when she led Palm Beach Atlantic with 766 assists and a school-record .382 hitting percentage while also ranking second on the team with 344 kills, 33 aces and 297 digs. The two-time SSC Offensive Player of the Week led the Division II ranks this fall with 10 triple-doubles. She was also named a CoSIDA Academic All-District 5 selection.
All told, Schmidt owned 22 matches with 10 or more kills, 15 contests with double-figure digs and posted 27 double-doubles overall to help the Sailfish finish 18-14 and earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
"We are thrilled about the addition of Jazz," said Creighton head coach Kirsten Bernthal Booth. "She is not only a great player, but she talked a lot about the importance of culture on a team during the recruiting process. She is very multi-faceted as she can set, hit and play defense. We can't wait for her arrival."
Schmidt had 315 kills, 566 assists, 291 digs, 52 blocks and 30 service aces in 2019 while recording six triple-doubles. In 2017 as a freshman, Schmidt had 206 kills, 113 digs, 108 assists, 57 blocks and a team-best 39 aces while starting all 30 matches. She was named to the league's All-Newcomer Team and given the school's Gary Carter Award, which is given to a male and female student-athlete that has a love and respect for the game, plays with enthusiasm and heart, and is a good role model on and off the field or court.
She also played for the University of Nebraska's Beach Volleyball team in the spring of 2018, earning five wins in the sand while playing at No. 4 and No. 5 doubles.
A native of Parker, Colo., Schmidt starred at Chaparral High School, where she was a two-time all-state pick and helped the Wolverines to four straight trips to the state tournament.
Creighton is coming off a 31-4 season that saw the Bluejays win the BIG EAST for the eighth straight season, which led to a 10th straight trip to the NCAA Tournament.
