Creighton coach assumes her role on Jan. 1, 2023, will become President in 2024
There were four Board seats on this year's ballot, and those elected are:
- President-Elect: Kirsten Bernthal Booth, Creighton University
- NCAA Division I Women's Representative: Marie Zidek of DePaul University (first term)
- Assistant Coaches Representative: Zach Weinberg, Tennessee Tech University (first term)
- NAIA Representative: Candace Moats of Indiana Wesleyan University (second term)
Booth, Zidek, and Weinberg are new to the AVCA Board, and Moats was re-elected to her spot for a second term (all Board terms are three years). Booth will serve as President-Elect in 2023, be President in 2024 and 2025, and then finish out her term as Past President in 2026.
Booth is in her 20th season as the head women's volleyball coach at Creighton. During her tenure, the Bluejays have recorded 434 wins and made 11 of the last 12 NCAA Tournaments. The last decade has been particularly great, as Booth's teams have averaged 27 wins per season (not including the 2020 COVID year), won nine regular-season conference titles, eight conference tournament titles and have received the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award eight times.
Zidek has made her mark at DePaul since she was hired as head women's coach in late 2017. Her 2021 team went 19-12, which marked the school's highest win total in two decades. The season also include making the BIG EAST Tournament for the first time in DePaul history and posting a program-best 12 victories in league play. In the classroom, the Blue Demons earned a 3.713 GPA, which was the highest among conference programs.
Weinberg joined the staff at Tennessee Tech in 2018 as an assistant women's coach, and he was promoted to associate head coach before last season. This April, when TTU announced it was adding beach volleyball in 2023, Weinberg was named the head coach. He also led the U.S. Women's Open Team at the Maccabiah Games in Israel this summer. In addition to his coaching roles, he serves on the leadership team of the AVCA Assistant Coaches Committee.
Wrapping up her 21st season at Indiana Wesleyan, Moats joined the AVCA Board in 2020 after being elected NAIA Representative in 2019. She also currently serves as the Board's Secretary-Treasurer.
AVCA Board members are elected by the constituency they represent within the different sectors of the association's membership.
