Women’s Tennis Falls To DePaul, 5-2

Bluejays return to action next Friday against Midland at 1 p.m.
CHICAGO, Ill. – The Creighton women's tennis team fell to DePaul, 5-2, in a BIG EAST conference match on Saturday afternoon at the XS Tennis Village in Chicago, Ill.
The Bluejays move their record to 9-6, while DePaul improves to 6-5 on the year.
DePaul came out the gates strong, putting the pressure on the Bluejays in doubles play. Despite holding a 4-3 lead at the No. 2 position from Valerie Negin and Malvika Shukla, the Bluejays fell 6-2 at both the No. 1 and No. 3 spots as the Blue Demons took the doubles point.
DePaul took an early advantage in singles play as well, earning a 7-5, 6-2 victory at the No. 3 singles slot. The Bluejays rallied with a win of their own as junior Kate Krueger recorded a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 three-set win at the No. 1 singles position.
The Blue Demons responded with a 6-3, 6-4 triumph at the No. 4 slot to push the score to 3-1 before clinching the match with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at the No. 5 singles position.
Negin opened her No. 2 singles match with a 6-3 win but dropped the second set 7-6 with a 8-6 tiebreaker loss before claiming a 6-0 victory in the decisive third set for the Bluejays second point of the match.
DePaul closed the match with a 6-3, 6-3 win at the No. 6 singles slot to give the Blue Demons a 5-2 match victory.
Creighton is back in action when it plays host to Midland on Friday, April 8 at the Koch Family Tennis Center. First serve is ser to begin at 1 p.m.
