Duncan McGuire Named National Player of the Week

Omaha, Neb. -- The awards for Creighton Men's Soccer's Duncan McGuire continue to roll in as the junior was named the National Player of the Week by the United Soccer Coaches Association on Wednesday, Aug. 31. McGuire collected National Player of the Week honors from TopDrawer Soccer on Tuesday and was part of College Soccer News' Team of the Week. In addition the Omaha native nabbed the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week award on Monday.

McGuire rounded out a record setting weekend with five goals and one assist in two matches to lead the nation in points (11) and goals scored (5). In the season opener McGuire set the facility record at Morrison Stadium with seven points on three goals and one assist in Creighton's 6-0 win over Oakland. McGuire assisted on the Bluejays' second goal, then scored the third, fourth and fifth goals in the match. Three days later McGuire tallied a pair of goals in the Bluejays' 6-1 win over Rutgers.

The goals alone tied a Morrison Stadium record for points, but McGuire's evening began with an assist. The combined seven points set a new facility mark, surpassing a quartet of Bluejays with six points (Ethan Finlay, Byron Dacy, Julian Nash and Brian Biggerstaff).

McGuire's hat trick was the first in Creighton history since Sept. 24, 2016 when Riggs Lennon delivered four goals in a 4-1 win at DePaul.

McGuire and the rest of the Creighton squad return to action on Friday, Sept. 2 as the Bluejays host Saint Louis at 6:30 p.m.
