Ava Martin Named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week

Creighton outside hitter averaged league-high 4.20 kills per set last week

OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton Volleyball's Ava Martin has been named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week after leading the Bluejays to a pair of 3-0 victories last weekend.

Martin led the BIG EAST with 4.20 kills per set and was tops among outside hitters with her .441 hitting percentage.

Martin made a splash in her BIG EAST debut, finishing with 10 kills and two digs on .533 hitting vs. Georgetown. Each of her first six swings resulted in a kill.

On Sunday against Villanova, Martin owned 11 kills on .368 hitting, also contributing three digs and a block.

The Overland Park, Kan., native is the second Creighton freshman ever with double-figure kills in each of her first two BIG EAST matches, joining Jaali Winters in 2015.

No. 22 Creighton (10-3, 2-0 BIG EAST) returns to the court on Wednesday, Sept. 28 as the Bluejays host Xavier (9-3, 2-0 BIG EAST) at 6:30 p.m. in D.J. Sokol Arena.
