#15 Volleyball Earns Fifth Straight Sweep at Providence

Bluejays improve to 17-4 overall
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- No. 15 Creighton Volleyball continued its late-season push with a fifth consecutive 3-0 victory, this time at Providence on Saturday, Oct. 21. Creighton hit .430 in the contest, hitting over .340 for the fourth straight match.
Scores of the match were 25-7, 25-21, 25-19 in favor of Creighton (17-4, 8-2 BIG EAST). Providence, which has won just won set in 16 all-time meetings with Creighton, fell to 8-14 and is 2-8 in league play.
"I thought we were really, really clean the first game and Providence really struggled," said Creighton head coach Kirsten Bernthal Booth, who improved to 162-16 in BIG EAST play with the victory. "I thought Providence played much better in sets two and three and we just relaxed a little bit. Everyone's good enough that if you're not locked in and ready to go for every point, you can lose, so I did like the way that we stayed composed and didn't look stressed."
Creighton didn't waste any time taking the lead, getting a kill from Kiara Reinhardt to start the match before a 5-0 serving run from Reinhardt catapulted the Bluejays to a 6-0 lead. Creighton's margin grew to 17-3 after an extended Sky McCune serving run that included back-to-back aces. Abbey Milner served her first career ace to get CU to set point, which the Jays converted as Kiana Schmitt and Ellie Bichelmeyer combined to stuff Macy Taylor. Creighton hit .737 in the opening frame, its second-best set in program history, thanks to 14 kills in 19 errorless swings. Norah Sis led the Jays with five kills.
The Bluejays managed their second-biggest comeback to win a set this season to take a 2-0 lead in the match. Down as much as 17-10, CU ended the second set on a 10-1 run to take the 25-21 decision. Ava Martin had an ace as part of a 4-0 run to draw the Jays within one at 20-19. After a Providence sideout, Reinhardt served the final six Bluejay points, which included three kills by Bichelmeyer. The grad transfer from Rice had six of her seven kills of the night in the second frame.
Katie Maser's 7-0 serving run sparked the Bluejays to an 8-4 lead early in the final frame and the visitors never looked back. Back-to-back-to-back kills from Sis pushed the Bluejay advantage to 20-15, and a PC service error ended the contest. The Bluejays hit .375 and had 16 kills in the final set, including four each from All-Conference outside hitters Martin and Sis.
Sis led Creighton with 13 kills on season-best .440 hitting. Five different Bluejays had six or more kills as Wait distributed 28 assists and also added six kills and eight digs herself. McCune paced the Bluejay defense with nine digs in her second straight match at libero. Creighton finished the afternoon with 45 kills, seven aces, 35 digs and seven blocks. The .430 hitting percentage was CU's third time this year hitting .400 or better.
Shaliyah Roden topped PC with 12 kills and hit .290 while also compiling a pair of aces. The Friars hit .158 and had 31 kills, six aces, 28 digs and one block.
Creighton returns to action on Friday at 6 p.m. when it visits Villanova in a match that will be streamed on FloSports.
