Bluejays are off to its best start under head coach Tom Lilly
OMAHA, Neb. – The Creighton women's tennis continued its winning streak on Wednesday afternoon, cruising to a 7-0 win over Southwest Minnesota State at the Hanscom Tennis Center.
The Bluejays improved to 5-0 on the season with the win, while Southwest Minnesota State fell to 1-3 overall. The 5-0 start to the season is the best mark by a Creighton team under head coach Tom Lilly.
"I thought we handled ourselves well and took care of business on our home court against a feisty team," said Lilly. "We played strong and confident throughout the lineup and that didn't allow them to make any of the matches close. Considering our injuries and illnesses this week, I was proud of how we dominated this match."
Creighton started the match strong earning the doubles point with wins at all three doubles positions. Bianca Rademacher and Siri Kongara combined for a 6-0 win at the No. 3 position, while Ana Paula Martinez and Valerie Negin clinched the first point of the match with a 6-1 win at the No. 2 slot. Leanne Kendall and Malvika Shukla also claimed a 6-2 victory at the top doubles position.
In singles play, Creighton earned straight-sets wins, dropping a total of six games across all six positions.
Kongara continued her dominance with a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 4 singles spot, while sophomore Allison Wilcox claimed an identical 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 6 singles position for her first win of the season.
