WICHITA, Kan. – The Creighton men's tennis team fell to Wichita State, 4-1, in the Bluejays regular season finale on Saturday afternoon in Wichita, Kansas.
The loss dropped the Bluejays to 12-6 on the year, while the Shockers improved to 11-14 with the win.
Creighton gained an early 1-0 edge on Saturday with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles positions to claim the first point of the match. Oscar Alvarez and Zachary Kuo combined for a 6-1 win at the No. 3 positions, while Casey Ross and Kirtan Patel battled to a 7-6 (7-2) win at the No. 2 spot.
Georgetown, however, responded with four straight single wins at the top four single spots to clinch the overall dual. Ross forced a decisive third set at the No. 2 single spot with a come-from-behind 7-6 (7-3) win is set two but ended up falling in the third set 7-5.
"This match was back-and-forth throughout," said head coach Tom Lilly. "We battled the wind and very chilly conditions and took the doubles point. I like where we are heading into conference with a very close match against one of the best teams, we have played all year."
The Bluejays return to the courts next week for the start of the BIG EAST Championships in Cayce, South Carolina.
