Rising junior leads team with 10 kills
Nogales, Sonora, Mexico - - Rising Creighton junior Norah Sis owned a team-high 10 kills to lead the USA Volleyball Under-21 National Team to a 3-0 victory over the Dominican Republic on Thursday evening at the U21 Women's NORCECA Pan American Cup. The American side won by set scores of 25-16, 25-19 and 25-14 in a match that was completed in 72 minutes.
Sis had four kills and a block in each of the first two sets. Sis finished her night with 10 kills in 24 attacks while hitting .333, adding two blocks and five digs. She also had one ace among her nine service attempts.
The US owned a 42-25 advantage in kills, 13-7 edge in blocks and owned the only three aces in the contest.
The 2022 BIG EAST Player of the Year and a two-time BIG EAST Tournament MVP, Sis averaged 4.33 kills per set and 2.51 digs per set for a Creighton team that won the BIG EAST regular-season and Tournament titles. The Papillion, Neb., product has been named an AVCA All-American following each of her previous two seasons as a Bluejay, during which time Creighton is a combined 58-9.
Last summer Sis started all five of Team USA's matches while helping the U.S. Women's National Team to the 2022 Pan American Cup gold medal, collecting a combined 30 kills, 24 digs, four blocks and three aces on .286 hitting for the week.
Sis and USA Volleyball return to the court on Friday at Noon Central against Costa Rica. The event will be live streamed on Facebook Live at Codeson Sonora.
Norah Sis, outside hitter of United States: "We had to regroup after each set, we knew we were starting out slow, but we did make it our goal to start making our game and it all turned out well. Dominicans are a good defensive team, and it took us a while to get the middles going but when we did our offense picked up and we were able to be in system".
Dan Fisher, head coach of United States: "We started off each set making a lot of errors and blew a few plays defensively, but we played well at the end of the game. Finally in the third set we started well defensively. I think our zone 4 attackers were very good, they were carrying a big load for us even if our middles weren't going. They were serving a lot of balls to Norah, and she passed really well, I am very pleased with our serve-receive".
