Men's Soccer Falls at #7 Stanford, 3-1

Palo Alto, Calif. -- Creighton Men's Soccer battled sternly, but fell to No. 7 Stanford in the season opening match on Thursday, Aug. 27. The eighth-ranked Bluejays fell to 0-1 with the loss, while the Cardinal climbed to 1-0.
Stanford struck first with a pair of goals in the opening half. The Cardinal got on the board in the 19th minute as Shane Flores got free at the top of the box, fielding a pass from Palmer Bank. Flores shook on Creighton defender with a sidestep, then blasted in the goal from 12-yards out.
The Cardinal pushed their edge to 2-0 in the 26th minute as Zach Bohane collected a pass from Fletcher Bank, then beat Creighton goalkeeper Nathan Schnur to the upper right corner.
Creighton got on the board late in the first half as Alfie Pope headed in an entry pass from Miguel Arilla in the 42nd minute (41:16) to make it 2-1.
The score remained 2-1 into halftime, but Stanford pushed across a third tally in the 66th minute as Duncan Jarvie found daylight with Noah Adnan earning the assist.
Stanford outshot Creighton 19-7 in the contest, while the Bluejays created eight corners to five by the Cardinal.
Creighton returns to the pitch on Sunday, Aug. 27th at 5:00 p.m., when the Bluejays face UC Irvine.
