Bluejays have won back-to-back tournaments, visit #4 Nebraska next
Creighton beat defending Mid-American Conference champion Ball State (3-2) on Friday, swept an LSU team that was getting Top 25 votes on Saturday and won its second tournament title in as many weeks with a 3-1 victory over defending Missouri Valley Conference champion Northern Iowa on Sunday. CU is now 5-1 on the season, including a win at then-No. 16 Purdue on Aug. 26th. The Boilermakers picked up a pair of top-25 wins last week and jumped to No. 20 in this week's poll.
The Bluejays are one of 17 schools (along with Baylor, BYU, Florida, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, Pitt, Purdue, Stanford, Texas and Wisconsin) to have been ranked each of the last 33 polls. Creighton has been ranked in all but six of the past 102 weeks the AVCA has put out a Top 25 poll and 110 times in program history, which is tied for 42nd-most all-time. Creighton is 177-41 all-time when playing as a ranked team in the AVCA poll.
CU's all-time best ranking in program history is No. 7, which came in the poll released on Aug. 28, 2017. This is the 12th straight season that Creighton has spent at least one week in the top-25, extending another program record.
Creighton's BIG EAST rival, Marquette, which started the season ranked 12th and dropped to No. 19 after an opening weekend loss, slipped to No. 24 after losses to Kansas and Purdue last weekend. The top five of the poll features Wisconsin, Louisville, Florida, Nebraska and Stanford.
Creighton has three matches this week, starting with Wednesday night's 7 p.m. match at No. 4 Nebraska that will be televised nationally on BTN. The Bluejays then head across their home city to take on Omaha (Friday, 7 pm on NPM) and Iowa State (Sunday, 4:30 pm) at Baxter Arena. The Cyclones are just outside the top-25 this week, receiving 78 votes.
