Ronsiek and Jensen Combine for 44 in 81-70 Win for #22 Creighton WBB over Providence

Omaha, Neb. -- After getting just two points from seniors Emma Ronsiek and Lauren Jensen in the opening quarter, the duo scored 42 points in the final three as #22 Creighton defeated Providence 81-70 on Sunday, January 14 in D.J. Sokol Arena.
The win pushed the Bluejays to 13-3 on the season and 4-2 in BIG EAST action, while Providence fell to 8-10 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
Providence raced out to a 20-16 edge at the end of the first quarter and led by six twice in the opening moments of second quarter. The Friars were 8-of-14 (57.1%) from the field in the first ten minutes, knocking down four treys. The Bluejays countered with three trifectas from senior Morgan Maly to remain within striking distance.
Down 24-18 with 7:28 left in the second quarter, Creighton flipped the momentum with a 10-0 run in just two minutes. Ronsiek got things started with a traditional three-point play, Jensen followed with seven straight points on a pair of jumpers and capped by a trey to put Creighton in front 28-24 (5:24).
Leading 35-31 moments later (1:51) another two-minute burst sent Creighton to halftime with a 42-31 lead. This time the Bluejays' points came from Ronsiek as the South Dakota native delivered all seven of Creighton's points down the stretch.
The Bluejay advantage grew to as much as 19 points midway through the third quarter at 56-37 (5:17) and did not fall under double figures the rest of the way.
Ronsiek closed the game with 22 points and seven rebounds, while Jensen had 22 points and three assists. Morgan Maly led Creighton with eight boards and also delivered 13 points, including nine in the opening frame.
Providence got a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds from Olivia Olsen. Also closing the game in double figures were Grace Efosa with 14 points and Brynn Farrell with 10 points.
The Bluejays have a few days off before getting back on the court on Sunday, January 21 at Villanova for an 11:00 a.m. game on CBS Sports Network.
