Announced on Thursday, Oct. 31 by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the women's basketball coaches association, the Katrina McClain Watch List was named after the two-time All-American and 1987 National Player of the Year, the annual award in its eighth year recognizes the top power forwards in women's NCAA Division I college basketball. A national committee of top college basketball personnel determined the watch list of 20 candidates.
This is the second consecutive season that Maly has earned a spot on the McClain Watch List. The Nebraska native led the Bluejays with 209 rebounds last season and finished third on the team with 486 points. She closed the 2023-24 campaign with 70 made three-pointers (70-of-208) and a free-throw percentage of 88.2 (60-of-68).
The BIG EAST Conference lone representative on the Katrina McClain Watch List is Maly, however former Bluejay Emma Ronsiek (now playing at Colorado State) did make the cut.
Fans are encouraged to participate in Fan Voting in each of the three rounds starting on Friday, November 1. In late January, the watch list of 20 players for the 2025 Ann Meyers Drysdale Awards will be narrowed to 10, and then in late February, to just five. In March, the five finalists will be presented to Meyers Drysdale, and the Hall of Fame's selection committees, where winners will be selected. The Selection Committees for the Ann Meyers Drysdale Awards are composed of top men's and women's college basketball personnel, including media members, head coaches, sports information directors, and Hall of Famers.
