Bluejays win sixth straight to improve to 13-2
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Maddy Bilinovic surpassed 1,000 career digs and the No. 6 Creighton Volleyball team hit .389 in a 3-0 road win at Butler on Friday night. Butler scored the first point of the match, but never led again, as scores of the Bluejay victory inside historic Hinkle Fieldhouse were 25-19, 25-15, 25-11.
The win was Creighton's 21st in a row over Butler (2-13, 0-3 BIG EAST).
"Butler threw some different things at us which forced our team to make some adjustments," said associate head coach Brian Rosen, who noted the Bulldogs ran a 6-2 offense for the first time this season. "We were able to get offense from our middles, from Jaya, from our outsides, and we used the back row a lot more today than normal too, which is nice to be in system and use that as well."
Creighton (13-2, 4-0 BIG EAST) opened the night with a 25-19 victory. Kendra Wait dished 12 assists and had four digs, while Norah Sis added five kills to pace an offensive attack that hit .433. CU closed out the victory on an attack error from BU's Alaleh Tolliver.
The Bluejays hit .421 in the second set with 17 kills against just one error on 38 swings to take a commanding 2-0 lead into intermission. Sis had six kills and Johnson and Reinhardt combined on a pair of rejections.
The third set was more of the same domination from the sixth-ranked visitors. The Jays served three aces while building a 16-5 lead and cruised home to its 10th sweep of the season, with match point coming on a kill by Destiny Ndam-Simpson.
The Bluejays were led by 16 kills by Sis, while Wait had her 63rd career double-double with 35 assists and 12 digs. Bilinovic upped 13 digs. CU hit .389 and finished with 45 kills, 40 digs, seven blocks and three aces.
Butler was led by nine kills from Tolliver but top option Abby Maesch had eight errors to match her eight kills to hit .000 on the evening. The Bulldogs had 31 kills, 35 digs, two blocks and an ace.
Creighton is back in action next Friday for a 5 p.m. Central match at Villanova.
