OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton Volleyball held onto its best American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25 poll ranking in program history on Monday as the Bluejays stayed in the No. 5 slot in the today's poll. It's the 11th straight week the Bluejays have been in the Top 10, and 32nd time overall.
Winners of 18 straight matches, during which time it has dropped just three sets, Creighton improved to 25-2 this season following wins over Seton Hall (3-0) and Georgetown (3-0) last weekend. Sunday's sweep over Georgetown clinched at least a share of an 11th straight BIG EAST regular-season title, something CU can make outright with another win this weekend.
The Bluejays are one of 15 schools (along with Baylor, BYU, Florida, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, Nebraska, Oregon, Penn State, Pitt, Purdue, Stanford, Texas and Wisconsin) to have been ranked each of the last 59 polls. Creighton has been ranked in all but six of the past 128 weeks the AVCA has put out a Top 25 poll and 136 times in program history, which ranks 39th-most all-time. Creighton is 226-47 all-time when playing as a ranked team in the AVCA poll. This is the 13th straight campaign that Creighton has spent at least one week in the Top 25.
Six of Creighton's 2024 opponents are ranked in this week's poll. The Bluejays have already beaten then-No. 20 (and current No. 21) USC on Sept. 5th, and lost five-set road matches at then-No. 5 (and current No. 2) Nebraska (Sept. 10) and then-No. 4 (and current No. 3) Louisville (Sept. 15). CU also went to Lawrence, Kan., where it beat then-No. 6 (and current No. 8) Purdue (Sept. 20) as well as then-No. 10 (and current No. 11) Kansas (Sept. 21). Missouri, a team Creighton swept on Aug. 31st in Omaha in ranked for a second straight week, coming in at No. 25. Marquette, whom Creighton has beaten twice, is among those teams "also receiving votes".
Pittsburgh, Nebraska Louisville and Penn State remained in front of Creighton, as the Top 10 teams in last week's poll went a combined 20-0 last week.
The Bluejays are still No. 4 in the seventh Monday edition this fall of the NCAA's official RPI and also held steady at a season-best No. 4 in the ninth VolleyballMag Super 16 Media Poll of the season.
Creighton returns to the court on Friday at 7 p.m. with a match at DePaul.
