Omaha, Neb. -- The incoming class for the 2024 Creighton Men's Soccer season grew to ten as the Bluejays added Amos Boum (Quebec, Canada), Gavrilo Civric (Belgrade, Serbia), Brandon Keniston (Scottsdale, Ariz.), Ryusei Shimonishi (Osaka, Japan), Ramon Torres (Dallas, Texas). The five newcomers join a quartet that have already been announced: Aaron Deppe (Coopersville, Mich.), Brian Edelman (Warren, N.J.), Matthew Hudson (Marion, Iowa), Santiago Marín Gutierrez (Heredia, Costa Rica) and Ismael Reyes.
A forward from Quebec, Canada, Boum attended high school at College Saint-Charles Garnier where he graduated Summa Cum Laurde. He was the captain of both his high school and province squads (Cegep Garneau). Playing with Royal Select Beauport in the Senior Quebec Cup in 2022, Boum held the record for the youngest goal scorer and helped secure a championship.
"Boum is an attacker that will add depth and presence to our front line," said Bluejay head coach Johnny Torres. "His physical attributes paired with his 1-vs-1 skills will be an asset to the group."
Coming to Creighton from Serbia, Civric is an attacking forward who led his youth club team (FC Broadarac) in goals scored.
"Gavrilo is a presence on the front line and link the midfield line on the attack," noted Torres. "He is a selfless individual that is not afraid to do the dirty work to help his team. He is an opportunistic athlete with the ability to finish."
Keniston joins the goalkeeper ranks from University of San Francisco. Entering USF during the Covid season of 2020-21, Keniston has appeared in 16 matches during his career with the Dons. He has notched just under 1,200 minutes on the pitch (1198:30), allowing 28 goals and recording 61 saves. An All-WCC Academic Honorable Mention Selection in 2021, Brandon appeared in ten matches during the 2021 season.
"Keniston is an experienced GK with some very good attributes in goal. He has a strong foundation, having spent 10 years with the Phoenix Rising FC academy before joining San Francisco for his undergraduate," noted Torres. "He will add depth in the goalkeeper position and substance in the locker room and classroom."
The second transfer of this quartet is Shimonishi, who comes to Creighton Iowa Wester CC. A native of Japan, Shimonishi was a First Team
All-Region selection in 2022 and 2023. The wing back was also a member of the 2023 NJCAA National Runner Up squad and continues a line of Reivers that included 2023 BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year Giorgio Probo.Â
"Shimo is a very poised and smart soccer player that brings calm and decisive decisions to the game," said Torres. "He has demonstrated a calculated, efficient, and reliable style of play while at IWCC and we are delighted to have landed him as a transfer."
Another Reiver coming to Omaha in 2024 is Roman Torres. Originally from Texas, Torres is a midfielder that was a key member of Tulsa Athletic during the 2023 season as the team won the NPSL National Championship and advance to the third round of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. Across all competition, Torres made 10 starts and played 896 minutes in the midfield for Tulsa Athletic in 2023
"Roman is a talented soccer player that can play anywhere in the middle. He comes to us from the national power that is IWCC, where he dominated opponents with his relentless ability to cover ground on both sides of the ball," said Bluejay head coach Johnny Torres. "He is a fearless competitor, and we welcome his attributes to our program as a transfer."
