Volleyball Opens Season Ranked 12th in Preseason AVCA Poll

Creighton has been ranked once each of the last 13 seasons
The Bluejays return four starters and 13 letterwinners from a team that finished last year 29-5, won an unprecedented 10th straight regular-season BIG EAST title, and finished the season ranked 15th in the country. Over the previous 16 seasons, 295-of-400 teams (73.8 percent) have been in both the preseason and final polls. Since 2008, all but 38 teams (of 400) named in the preseason AVCA Top 25 poll would go on to reach the NCAA Tournament (90.5 percent).
Today's announcement marks the 10th time in the last 12 seasons that the Bluejays have earned a spot in the preseason poll, and today's No. 12 slotting is its second-best preseason ranking in program history, trailing only its No. 9 selection prior to the 2017 campaign.
The Bluejays are one of 15 schools (along with Baylor, BYU, Florida, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, Nebraska, Oregon, Penn State, Pitt, Purdue, Stanford, Texas and Wisconsin) to have been ranked each of the last 47 polls. Creighton has been ranked in all but six of the past 116 weeks the AVCA has put out a Top 25 poll and 124 times in program history, which ranks 41st-most all-time. Creighton is 201-45 all-time when playing as a ranked team in the AVCA poll.
CU's all-time best ranking in program history is No. 7, which came in the poll released on Aug. 28, 2017.
Creighton's BIG EAST rival, Marquette, came in at No. 24Â and is one of six ranked Bluejay opponents in the preseason poll. The Bluejays play non-conference matches against No. 2 Nebraska (Sept. 10), No. 6 Louisville (Sept. 15), No. 8 Purdue (Sept. 20), No. 13 Kansas (Sept. 21) and No. 21 USC (Sept. 5). Additionally, future foes Kansas State (32nd) and Missouri (37th) are among those also receiving votes.
Creighton visits Colorado State on Aug. 24 for its final exhibition contest of the fall. The Rams received three votes in the preseason AVCA poll and have been picked to win the Mountain West Conference.
The regular-season gets started with five straight home matches as CU hosts the Bluejay Invitational (Aug. 30-Sept. 1) featuring NC State, Missouri and Drake, before welcoming USC and Kansas State to town for the Creighton Classic on Sept. 5-7.
