Bluejays meet No. 6 Purdue and No. 10 Kansas this weekend
The Jays held steady after Creighton lost a pair of five-set road matches to No. 5 Nebraska and No. 4 Louisville last week while also picking up 3-0 victories over the preseason favorites in the Missouri Valley Conference (Northern Iowa) and American Athletic Conference (Rice) during a busy week.
It's the 23rd time overall that Creighton has been ranked in the Top 10. CU's all-time best ranking in program history is No. 7, which came in the poll released on Aug. 28, 2017. This is the 13th straight campaign that Creighton has spent at least one week in the top-25.
The Bluejays are one of 15 schools (along with Baylor, BYU, Florida, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, Nebraska, Oregon, Penn State, Pitt, Purdue, Stanford, Texas and Wisconsin) to have been ranked each of the last 49 polls. Creighton has been ranked in all but six of the past 119 weeks the AVCA has put out a Top 25 poll and 127 times in program history, which ranks 41st-most all-time. Creighton is 208-47 all-time when playing as a ranked team in the AVCA poll.
Five of Creighton's 2024 opponents are ranked in this week's poll. The Bluejays have already beaten then-No. 20 (and current No. 21) USC on Sept. 5th, and lost five-set road matches at No. 5 Nebraska (Sept. 10) and No. 4 Louisville (Sept. 15) last week. Up next are contests away from home against No. 6 Purdue (Sept. 20) and No. 10 Kansas (Sept. 21). BIG EAST rival Marquette is tops among those teams also receiving votes after an unbeaten week as it preps for a road match at No. 7 Wisconsin.
With the top five in last week's poll all going unbeaten last week there was no change at the top of the rankings, which were once again headed by Pittsburgh, Stanford, Penn State, Louisville and Nebraska.
Creighton will conclude non-conference play with the Jayhawk Classic this weekend in Lawrence, Kan. The Bluejays meet No. 6 Purdue (8-0) on Friday at 4 p.m. before taking on No. 10 Kansas (7-0) on Saturday at 3 p.m.
