Scouting Xavier (5-3-2, 1-1-1 BE)
Leading up to a conference brawl with Creighton, Xavier racked up a quick two-game win streak, with a 1-0 victory over Marquette and, of late, a 2-0 win over Wright State.
Against the Raiders, Xavier delivered two goals off the foot of two scorers. The first score came from Harun Bakaran in the 2nd minute of the match for his third goal of the season, assisted by Cooper Forcellini.Â
Jabori De Coteau delivered the second and final goal of the match for his first score of the season in the 28th minute.
Forcellini, credited with the assist on Bakaran's goal, leads the Musketeers offensively, recording nine goals this season. Bakaran's trio of goals is the second-highest goal total for Xavier this season.
Jonny Mennell and Gabriel Kuffell hold a 60-40 split in the net this season for the Musketeers. Kuffell played four games this season for a 0.737 save percentage and 2-1-1 record.Â
Mennell appeared in both of Xavier's last two matches, making six saves in that time and holding 0.750 save percentage and 3-2-1 record this season.
Scouting Creighton (6-3-2, 2-1-0):
In their first three games away from Morrison in nearly a month, the Bluejays posted a 2-1 record.
Breaking up the conference schedule, Creighton most recently defeated the Missouri State Bears 1-0 with a thrilling goal in the 89th minute. The late goal ensured a three-point night and allowed the Bluejays to bounce back after getting shut out 3-0 by Connecticut just five days prior.Â
Martin Herrera delivered the winning strike for his second goal of the season against the Bears. With the score, Herrera's four points this season move him into the top five for point scorers in 2025.
The graduate transfer now sits behind Miguel Arilla (11), Matthew Reed (9) and Bautista Rossi (6) for points accumulated this season. Edelman (4) rounds out the top five.
In goal, Matthew Hudson adds another tally to his growing record of shutouts this season, securing his sixth of the season.
Bluejays' Six Shutouts in 2025 Already Most Since 2018
With six shutouts in 11 matches this season, Creighton's defense and the play of freshman goalkeeper Matthew Hudson has been stellar. The six clean sheets are the most since Creighton close the season with seven during the 2018 campaign. The school record for shutouts came in 2011 as Creighton posted 19 clean sheets.
Late Goal Delivers Win Over Missouri State, Second 1-0 Win of 2025
Martin Herrera's game-winner at the 88:02 mark against Missouri State lifted Creighton back into the win column. The last time the Bluejays netted a game-winner within the final three minutes of regulation came on November 26, 2022, in the NCAA Tournament Third Round against Tulsa, when Giorgio Probo buried a penalty kick at the 87:45 mark to send Creighton to the quarterfinals.
It marked Creighton's second 1-0 win of the season, also besting Marquette 1-0. Ironically both of the last two meetings with Xavier have resulted in 1-0 decisions. Each going to the road team.
The last time Creighton scored a game-winning goal in the final two minutes came in 2015 as the Bluejays defeated Cal State Northridge 2-1 with a goal from Myles Englis with 88:15 on the clock.
Creighton Sits Third in Average Attendance in NCAA
The Bluejays currently sit in the number three spot for average attendance on the national scale bringing in 3,009 patrons per game. This number also puts Creighton in the lead for the BIG EAST for average attendance with Connecticut sitting a few spots below at sixth nationally and second in the BIG EAST having an average of 2,667 spectators at their matches.Â
The Bluejays also sit within the top 10 in accumulative attendance for the season at number seven with a total of 15,004 attendees. Creighton is also the only BIG EAST team to be within the top 10 nationally for accumulative attendance.Â
Hudson's Scoreless Streak Surpassed 350 Minutes
After conceding a goal at the 60:04 mark against Omaha on Sept. 10, goalkeeper Matthew Hudson and the Creighton defense strung together a scoreless streak of 352:45. The streak, however was snapped by a goal against Connecticut (52:49) on October 3rd. The Huskies went on to score three goals in the match.Â
Before their current run, the Bluejays held opponents scoreless for 210:24 — a span that stretched from their 0-0 draw with Tulsa through the 31st minute of their match with Omaha.
