Another Shutdown in DC; #13 Volleyball Sweeps Host Hoyas

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- No. 13 Creighton Volleyball remained perfect all-time against Georgetown with a 3-0 sweep in Washington, D.C., on Friday night. Scores in favor of the Bluejays were 27-25, 25-17, 25-15.
Creighton (12-5, 5-0 BIG EAST) is now 23-0 all-time against Georgetown (10-9, 3-3 BIG EAST).
Creighton had to save a pair of set points to win a tight first set that featured 21 ties and seven lead changes. Kiara Reinhardt had five kills and hit .500, while Jaya Johnson owned five digs, three kills and an ace. The Jays trailed 25-24 before an Ava Martin kill, a Georgetown hitting error after Annalea Maeder's sent GU out of system, and a Kiara Reinhardt kill. CU hit .306 in the first set with 16 kills and 13 digs to offset a Hoya offense that hit .289 and saw Dionna Mitchell earn eight kills and five digs on .471 hitting.
The Bluejays took a 25-17 second set to carry a 2-0 lead into the intermission. CU broke open a 12-11 set with a 5-0 run on Sydney Breissinger's serve to build a six-point edge. Nora Wurtz came off the bench to serve four aces in the frame, including back-to-back points that brought CU within a point of the set victory.Â
CU never trailed in the third set, getting three aces from Sydney Breissinger en route to opening up a 15-6 lead. Breissinger also served up aces on the final two points of the match, giving her five overall. Abbey Hayes and Johnson each had four kills in the clincher, as CU hit .407 and limited the Hoyas to .133 hitting.
Martin led Creighton with 12 kills, while Johnson added nine kills. Kiara Reinhardt continued her efficient season, hitting .636 and finishing with eight kills. CU served up 12 aces, including five by Breissinger. and four from Wurtz. The Bluejays finished with 45 kills, 36 digs, four blocks and hit .393.
Georgetown was paced by 14 kills from Mitchell, who hit .412. The Hoyas had 35 kills, 29 digs, four blocks and two aces on .226 hitting.
Creighton is back in action on Saturday night at 6 p.m. Central when it visits second-place Villanova (13-3, 4-1 BIG EAST).
