Hudson Earns Third BIG EAST Freshman of the Week Nod, Shimonishi Claims Spot on Honor Roll

Omaha, Neb. -- Creighton goalkeeper Matthew Hudson earned his third BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honor on Monday, October 13 as the Iowa native posted his sixth and seventh shutouts of the season to help Bluejay Men's Soccer go 2-0-0 last week.
Facing 18 combined shots, the Bluejay netminder delivered critical saves in each win, stonewalling Xavier (October 11) on a free kick from just outside the box in the second minute of play and making six saves to allow Creighton's offense to blast in the game-winner against Missouri State in the 89th minute on October 8.
Hudson wasn't the only Bluejay recognized by the conference when weekly honors were announced. Senior Ryusei Shimonishi also picked up a spot on the weekly honor roll.Â
Shimonishi led the Bluejays to a pair of shutout wins, limiting Missouri State and Xavier to a combined 18 combined shots. Against the Musketeers the defender also provided the game-winning goa, finishing a run along the left side for the first goal in Creighton's 2-0 win over Xavier. It was Shimonishi's only shot in  the two matches combined, coming in the 54th minute.
Hudson, Shimonishi and the rest of the Bluejays return to action on Friday, October 17 as the Bluejays face Villanova in a road match at 2:00 pm.
