Men’s Tennis Opens Dual Season with Sweeps of Midland and Doane

OMAHA, Neb. – The Creighton Men's Tennis team opened the 2025-26 dual season in fine fashion, earning a pair of 7-0 sweeps over Midland and Doane on Saturday afternoon at the Hanscom Tennis Center in Omaha, Neb.
The pair of victories propelled the Bluejays to 2-0 on the year with season-opening sweeps for the second straight season. Midland and Doane both fell to 0-1 with their season opening loss.
Match 1: Creighton 7, Midland 0
In the first match of the day, Creighton stormed out to a 1-0 lead with victories on all three doubles courts. Senior Zachary Kuo and freshman Mathis Dahler captured a 6-2 win on the No. 3 doubles court, before freshmen Lucas Mommessin and Jack McMahon clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 victory at the top doubles position. Seniors Kirtan Patel and Yuma Daijima, meanwhile, opened their senior season by earning a 7-6 (7-5) win at the No. 2 spot.
In singles, the Jays continued on the same path, earning straight set wins at the No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 positions to clinch the overall dual. Kuo opened play with a quick 6-0, 6-0 triumph at the No. 6 spot, while Dahler captured a 6-2, 6-0 win at the No. 5 singles position. Patel then clinched the match moments later with a 6-1, 6-0 victory on the No. 5 court.
McMahon kept things rolling, claiming a 6-2, 6-2 straight sets win at the No. 3 singles spot to give Creighton a 4-0 lead. Daijima followed with a 6-4, 6-3 victory at the top spot, before Lucas Mommessin edged out Midland's Martin Cisneros for a 6-4, 4-6, 10-4 three set win on the No. 2 singles court to capture the 7-0 sweep.
Match 2: Creighton 7, Midland 0
An afternoon matchup with Doane saw Creighton sweep all three doubles and six singles matches on the way to a 7-0 victory.
Kuo and Dahler teamed up for a 6-1 win on the No. 3 doubles court, while Mommessin and McMahon combined for a 6-2 triumph at the No. 2 spot and sophomore Rocky McKenzie and Daijima followed with a 6-4 win at the top spot to clinch the first point of the match.
In singles play, Mommessin (No. 2) and Dahler (No. 6) both cruised to 6-0, 6-0 straight set victories, before Kuo captured a 6-1, 6-1 win on the No. 5 singles court to secure the Jays second win of the day.
Creighton remained perfect on the day, getting straight set wins from McKenzie (6-4, 6-3) at No. 1, McMahon (6-1, 6-2) at No. 3 and Patel (6-0, 6-2) at No. 4 to complete the 7-0 sweep.
Saturday's doubleheader closed out the fall portion of the schedule. The Bluejays will return to action for the rest of dual season beginning in late January.
