INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Trailing 1-0 at halftime, Creighton Women's Soccer delivered the equalizer in the 47th minute and went on to battle Butler to a 1-1 draw on Saturday, Oct. 25.
Following Friday's result Creighton moved to 6-7-4 on the season and 3-3-3 in BIG EAST contests, while Butler moved to 5-4-7 overall and 2-3-4 in conference play. The tie moved the Bluejays into a tie with Villanova for the fourth and final spot in the BIG EAST Tournament. Holding the tiebreaker with the Wildcats, Creighton controls its own destiny entering the regular season final on Saturday, Nov. 1 at home versus St. John's with a start time set for 1:00 pm.
A hard fought battle throughout the first half saw Creighton fend off 13 shots by the Bulldogs. However, Butler found the back of the net in the 42nd minute (41:52) as Talia Sommer delivered an unassisted goal with a shot to the bottom right portion of the goal.
Early in the second half Creighton answered by taking advantage of a quick flip of possession. The scoring play began with Alyssa Zalac sending a free kick deep into the Bulldog end. Butler was able to send the ball back onto Creighton's side. Olivia Sides gathered possession once more for the Bluejays, sending it ahead to Mallory Connealy just outside the box. Connealy turned to center the ball for Ariana Mondiri, who blasted a shot past Butler's Addison Ash to knot the match at 1-1.
The Bluejays were out shot 29-6 and denied Butler on 10 corner opportunities, including seven in the second half.
