Three Group Titles Highlight Men’s Tennis’ Final Day at Omaha Invite

OMAHA, Neb. – Battling windy conditions, the Creighton men's tennis team claimed three group titles as they wrapped up play at the Omaha Invite on Sunday afternoon at the Koch Family Tennis Center in Omaha.
Senior's Yuma Daijima and Kirtan Patel opened the day by earning the doubles championships with a pair of come-from-behind victories. The duo got things started with an 8-5 victory over Omaha's Ethan Gaubert and Pavan Uppu in the semifinals, before rallying for an 8-4 win over UNO's Caleb Peterson and Christian Trevey to claim the double title.
In singles play, freshman Jack McMahon captured the Group D singles trophy with a 6-1, 6-7 (5-7), 11-9 three-set win over Washburn's Petr Leipner, while senior Zachary Kuo rallied from a one-set deficit to take home the Group C singles title with a 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 10-7 three-set winner over Moritz Pieper.
Patel settled for a runner-up finish in Group A after falling to Washburn's Benjamin Fock, 6-1, 6-4 on Sunday, while sophomore Rocky McKenzie nearly pulled out a winner in Group B falling to Yuto Miyagawa, 6-5, 4-6, 11-9 in the finals.
The Bluejays return to the courts on Wednesday, Oct. 8 when they travel to Oklahoma for the ITA Regional.
