LINCOLN, Neb. – A 21-2 run spanning halftime led Nebraska to a 84-50 victory over Creighton on Wednesday night at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Neb.
The loss moved the Bluejays to 1-2 on the season, while Nebraska climbed to 3-0 with just their second win over Creighton in their last 10 tries.
Nebraska shot out of the gates as hot as could be scoring on each of their first four possessions and opening up a 10-3 advantage just two minutes into the contest. Creighton answered with back-to-back buckets from Ava Zediker and Kendal McGee to cut the deficit 10-7, but the Cornerhuskers finished the opening stanza with a 7-2 burst, including a half-court heave from Jessica Petrie at the buzzer, to take a 17-9 lead.
The second quarter belonged solely to Nebraska, outscoring Creighton 18-5 to take a 35-14 lead into the locker room. The Cornhuskers stifling defense caused havoc holding the Jays to just 16.0 perfect shooting in first half.
The two squads traded buckets through the midway point of the third quarter, before a 13-4 Nebraska run pushed the Huskers advantage to 59-31 after three quarters of play.
Creighton freshman provided a spark in the fourth quarter scoring 17 of the teams 19 points in the frame, but Nebraska could not be stopped claiming the 84-50 victory.
